A Gambian man denied in court on Monday of indecently assaulting his aunt-in-law, 62, in their Hong Kong home in Tuen Mun in the New Territories in December 2015.
The man, now 34, married the 62-year-old woman’s niece in September 2014 and they were living together in a village house, Apple Daily reported, citing a District Court trial in Wan Chai on Monday.
The man, from the West African country of Gambia, was charged with one count of indecent assault and a count of common assault.
The court heard that on December 13, 2015, when the woman returned home from work, she found the jobless man wearing her bra, Apple Daily said. The man pushed the woman onto the bed, touched her breasts and said, “Auntie, I will show you the way of life,” the court was told.
The woman struggled and her lips were hurt. The woman, who works as a preacher, told the man that “God will punish you.”
The woman said the attack would ruin his plan to migrate to the United States, where his wife had had a baby at the time. The man replied, “In the name of Jesus, please don’t tell anyone.”
The man, a torture claimant in Hong Kong, has remained in custody since his arrest. In court on Monday, the defendant said he was drunk on the day of the incident and did not remember anything, Sing Pao Daily reported. He said the woman was fabricating stories to set him up.
