Despite fetching a silver in the just-concluded Rio Olympics, PV Sindhu remained at the tenth spot in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings, while Indian ace shuttler Saina Nehwal dropped four places to be ninth, just above her, on Thursday.
India expected to bag at least 10 medals this time but it was a major disappointment at Rio. However, Sindhu won silver in the women’s singles competition giving India a reason to cheer.
India had won six medals in London 2012 and expected to break the double-digit barrier this time.
Badminton women’s doubles pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa also dropped four places to settle at the 26th spot following their failure to reach the knock-out stage in the Rio Games.
