The Hong Kong Observatory issued a No. 1 Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal at around 2am on Saturday as typhoon Mawar is approaching to Hong Kong.
The Standby Signal No. 1 means that a tropical cyclone now centred within about 800 kilometres of Hong Kong may affect us. However, the chance of issuing the Strong Winds Signal No 3 during the day is relatively low.
At 7am, Tropical Storm Mawar was estimated to be about 350 kilometres east-southeast of Hong Kong (near 21.3 degrees north 117.4 degrees east) and is forecast to move north-northwest slowly in the general direction of the coast of eastern Guangdong.
Mawar edged slightly closer to the coast of eastern Guangdong and its outer rainband started to affect that area.
According to the present forecast track, Mawar will make landfall over the coast east of Shanwei later on Sunday. As Mawar is relatively slow-moving, local winds are not expected to strengthen significantly on Saturday.
Locally, there will be occasional squally showers on Saturday and Sunday. Members of the public should take note of the latest weather situation in planning outdoor activities.

It happened to me as well. I was taking a taxi from Hung Hom MTR station, i carried a big luggage as i was just arrived in Hong Kong and need to go to the hotel. It was 11pm or so , i do not know the area, so i decided to take taxi rather than bus. The driver couldn’t understand what i’m saying and asking to show the hotel address. Once he know that the hotel is still in Hung Hom area he start to get angry. He told me i can walk, no need to take taxi because it’s not that far. How should i know if the distance were near while i don’t familiar with the area? it was 11pm at that time and i carry luggage with 25kg of weight. I will still pay him anyway, he doesn’t need to scold me though! He forced me to get out the taxi and dumped me in the road side, he refused to help me to take my luggage out from the taxi trunk, but he still charge me for another HK$ for my luggage. I can see the hotel sign so decided to walk, it took me around 15 minutes. I was really scare and upset, how come a taxi driver act like that while his main job is to deliver someone from place to place. near or far, taxi driver will earn money too. It’s not like because it’s near he will not earn anything at all. ????????????????
