A student who found a handbag containing 8 million Vietnamese dong (US$344) and handed it over to an administrator at her school is the latest in a line of Vietnamese school students to show admirable levels of honesty.

On February 12, Le Bao Ngoc, a secondary school student, found the bag with the money and identification papers in it, Viet Nam News reported. She told local media that the owner of the bag was likely to be in a tough situation with all that cash in the bag. As of February 13, the owner had yet to be located.

A similar case took place just days earlier on February 10 when another student, Ho Ly Huong Thuong found a handbag containing cash, a mobile phone and four taels of gold. She turned it over to the police, who also have yet to locate the owner.

In 2018, Thuong found a wallet with more than 2 million Dong in it (US$86) and returned it to its owner. She said it is normal to return any lost property to its owner.

Earlier this month, two primary school students in Dong Thap found a bag with a necklace, two bracelets, several 24 karat gold rings and four taels of gold and handed it to the police, who found the owner and returned the bag.

The school the two students attended applauded them and awarded them certificates of merit.
