An escalator broke down at a Mass Transit Railway station in Hong Kong after an Indonesian woman’s long dress got stuck in it on Sunday morning.
At 8am, the woman took the escalator connecting Exit C and the concourse of Diamond Hill MTR Station in Kowloon, but her dress got stuck in the gap between a step and an escalator comb plate, Oriental Daily reported.
She tried to pull her dress out but failed, and the accident triggered an emergency halt of the escalator’s operation.
No one was injured. MTR officials said staff shut down the escalator and replaced the damaged parts.
They advised passengers who wear long dresses, sandals or slippers to stand clear of the edges of MTR escalators.
Over the past few years, there have been a couple escalator-related accidents across the city and in mainland China.
Last year, one of the escalators at the Langham Place mall-cum-office building in Kowloon’s Mong Kok area malfunctioned, sending people crashing to the floor. In that incident, 18 people were injured, causing panic at the facility.
In 2015, a 30-year-old mother was killed by a defective escalator at a shopping mall in Jingzhou in central China’s Hubei province as the metal plate she stepped on collapsed.

Accedent is happened anytime anywhere in nowhere. We have different cultures we need respect it.
Mylene So Pendre so is it in hongkong not allowed to wear long dress??or do you mean who is wear that long dress is muslim?why?do you feel muslim people is disturb you,,because im sorry maybe you are not a muslim…
Jenny Leigh Smith you think my comment is racist? Sorry for my comment then. Never my intention to be racist. I am an Islam believer’s. Sorry once again
Jenny Leigh Smith completely agree with you Jenny. I am from the same country where people who made these racist comments are from. And to be honest i am sad and indignant by their ignorance. They dont realize when they came to HK, they were received well & given dignity and respect in general. When they occupy the streets, corridors and alleys on Sundays with all their noise and trash, nobody pushes them away. My expectation is at least, they show the same respect, decency and empathy to others.
Well said..
