The employers of the Singapore domestic helper who was photographed sleeping in the corridor outside their Housing Development Board flat last Sunday have stated that the incident was due to a miscommunication. The worker has corroborated their explanation.
The controversial photo was uploaded on Monday to the Facebook page “Filipinos in Singapore”, accompanied by a comment that the maid had been forced by her employers, who were away on holiday in India, to sleep in the corridor on Sunday.
The photo quickly went viral and has been shared over 4,000 times on Facebook, with thousands of commenters accusing the maid’s employers of being irresponsible, Shin Min Daily News reported.
When the maid saw on Monday that the photo had gone viral, she forwarded the post to her employers, who contacted the Ministry of Manpower in Singapore to arrange a meeting for Tuesday to allow them to explain. They said the incident was due to a miscommunication.
The maid also posted a comment on Facebook to clarify that she had decided to stay in the corridor on Sunday evening to wait for her employers, whom she mistakenly understood to be returning imminently. She said that she considered her employers to be friendly and generous toward her.
The Facebook page “Filipinos in Singapore” later took down the post and some media removed the original reports from their websites.
On a subsequent visit to the flat, a Shin Min Daily News reporter said the maid was minding her employers’ children and seemed happy.

IF THE EMPLOYER DONT LIKE THE HELPER,VERY SIMPLE SEND HER BACK TO AGENCY,CLEAN YOUR HOME,TOILET,IRONING,WASHING,COOKING.
I doubt if the employers are really friendly. They can’t even give her a key. My goodness, if you hire a maid you must have to trust since that is her second home, she takes care of your kids and all the household chores. She must have been advised by the employers to corroborate with them….

I am so lucky because my employer is trust to me so much, even when they’re go traveling more then 2 weeks, I stay alone in hongkong my boss keep all the key to me, even give me money for buy the food more then enough for 2 weeks,

Glenda Siador wait till u get to meet someone like my past employers who even wanted to rape me and someone who physically hurt me and someone who doesn’t feed us proper food and someone who never trust u to go out without inspecting and taking photos of every item in your bag. I am talking here about my previous bosses as I had been abroad for 23 years and encountered ugly characters from how many employment I had. So far I still haven’t met a fairly good one. Life goes on anyway as I need a job so I have to persevere, right!
The helper was and is scared to tell the truth.afraid to loss her work and all…its so simple thing not to understand that ur boss is on holiday and when they be back.its impossible not to be instructed of this things.maybe they are good to her but they never trusted her enough to stay in the house while they are away.greedy enough too not to pay a night lodging for the maid…my former boss are not trusting too.yeah they are good to me and generous but everytime they are on hollidaythey wont let me stay in the house.but they give me my food allowance and my daily boardinghouse rent…fair enough xxx
