Veteran Hong Kong actor and film producer Simon Yam Tat-wah was rushed to hospital after being stabbed on stage at a promotional event in China.

The 64-year-old star has appeared in numerous award-winning films and made his Hollywood debut in the 2003 movie, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life, opposite Angelina Jolie.

Since the late 1970s, Yam has appeared in more than 125 movies and 40 television series.

‘Stabbed’

“He was stabbed in his stomach and slashed on his arm, but was conscious the entire time,” Yam’s manager Lester Mo Gee-man, told the South China Morning Post.

“A preliminary investigation showed his injuries were not critical.”

The incident happened on Saturday as Yam was speaking on stage during the opening of a store in Zhongshan, which is in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong.

A video on the Twitter-like social media website Weibo showed a man lunge at the actor, stabbing him in the stomach.

“Hong Kong actor #SimonYam attacked by [an] unknown man at [a] media event,” @TrendingWeibo reported. “Yam walked away bleeding from an apparent stab wound to the abdomen. The attacker was apprehended by police. A representative for Yam tells [the] media that the actor is stable.”
