일요일인 9일 홍콩에서 홍콩 정부가 추진하고 있는 범죄인 인도 법안에 반대하는 대규모 시위가 일어났다.
시위를 주최한 민간인권전선(Civil Human Rights Front)은 2003년 7월 1일 홍콩판 국가보안법인 ‘기본법 23조’ 제정반대 때의 두 배인 103만 명(경찰 추산 24만 명)이 시위에 참여했다고 밝혔다.
범죄인 인도 법안은 홍콩으로 숨어든 범죄인을 중국으로 인도할 수 있도록 하는 법안인데, 홍콩 내에서는 중국 정부가 이를 악용해서 인권운동가 같은 사람들을 중국 본토로 송환할 것이란 우려가 커지고 있다.
시위는 오후 2시 20분경 홍콩 남부 홍콩성에 있는 공원인 빅토리아파크에서 시작해서 오후 10시경에 끝났다.
일부 시위 참가자들은 범죄인 인도 법안 철회와 함께 행정 수반인 캐리 람 행정장관의 사퇴를 요구했다. 람 장관은 아직 공식적인 논평을 내놓지는 않고 있다.
