A Filipino woman who illegally recruited Filipinos to work overseas was arrested last Wednesday in Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila, the Philippines.

According to Dante Gierran, director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Judith Tiru Maquiling tried to arrange for two Filipinas to work as “guest relations officers,” a term often used for sex workers, in Malaysia, the Manila Bulletin reported.

“Subject has been involved in the human trafficking activities for years by facilitating the exit of Filipino workers at NAIA going to Malaysia and offering them work in clubs,” the NBI said.

Maquilling was arrested on June 5 at NAIA Terminal 3 during a sting operation. The victims told immigration officials that Maquilling was supposed to meet them at the airport and accompany them to Malaysia. They were promised a salary of 500 Malaysian ringgit in exchange for sexual services to their customers.

She will be charged with human trafficking in violation of the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act and the Anti-Trafficking in Person Act.
