Former First Lady of Indonesia Kristiani Herrawati, widely known as Ani Yudhoyono, died on Saturday after battling blood cancer for months.
The news of her passing was announced by Andi Arief, the deputy secretary-general, on his Twitter account on June 1, The Jakarta Post reported.
Yudhoyono had been treated for her ailment at the National University of Singapore Hospital in Singapore since February. On May 30, her health began to worsen and she was moved to the intensive care unit for a high fever.
Two days later at 11:50 am, she passed away at the age of 67.
Her body arrived at the Halim Perdana Kusuma Air Base in Jakarta on the same night at 10 pm. She was brought via an Air Force C-130 Hercules aircraft with former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and their two sons on board.
Her eldest son Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono expressed gratitude for the condolences and sympathy shown by the Indonesian people. He also asked for forgiveness if his mother had ever hurt anyone’s feelings.
Yudhoyono was buried with military honors at the Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta on June 2. President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo led the ceremony.
