An Indonesian man who was caught red-handed during an attempted break-in is alleged to have pretended to suffer from a mental illness.

On June 8, Emiludin, 24, was caught trying to break into a house on Jl, Perunggu 2 No. 27 in the Bencongan subdistrict of Kelapa Dua, Tangerang, The Jakarta Post reported.

According to South Tangerang police crime unit chief Alexander Yurikho, a neighbor caught the suspect as he was climbing over the fence of the victim’s house. When the neighbor confronted him, the man went silent for a while.

Then, he acted like he was suffering from a mental disorder and became difficult to talk to. Locals found out about the attempted break-in and wanted to beat him up before handing him over to authorities.
