سلمت السلطات الكردية في شمال سوريا سيدتين وستة أطفال أمريكيين من أسر مقاتلين تنظيم الدولة الإسلامية للسلطات الأمريكية وتم اعادتهم لموطنهم بناء على طلب الحكومة الأمريكية، بحسب جريدة النيويورك تايمز الأمريكية.
يعتبر إعادة توطين الأفراد الثماني وهم من أسرة واحدة من الحالات القليلة لاستعادة بلاد غربية لمواطنيهم من المحتجزين في سوريا لعلاقتهم بالتنظيم، حيث يواجه حوالي 12 ألف سيدة وطفل من الأجانب في سجون السلطات الكردية في سوريا مصير مجهول.
بحسب النيويورك تايمز، تتكون المجموعة من أربعة أخوات من عائلة كمبودية-أمريكية تم إحضارهم لسوريا عن طريق والديهم الذين انضموا للتنظيم، ثم قتل الوالدان في القتال. تتضمن المجموعة أيضاً أربعة أطفال للأختين الأكبر.
قامت السلطات الكردية بتسليم بعض المحتجزين لديها من أعضاء التنظيم وأسرهم لبلادهم بينما سلمت آخرين للعراق للمحاكمة.
حكمت السلطات العراقية خلال الأسبوعين الماضيين على تسعة فرنسيين متهمين بالانضمام للتنظيم بالإعدام.
