A 40-year-old Singaporean woman, whose domestic worker had smashed teeth from a meat-tenderizer, was charged with multiple counts of abuse on April 29 in a case that has shocked the island state.
The woman allegedly beat up her employee on many occasions between June last year and February this year.
Wen Shao Yang was charged with seven counts of abuse against her domestic worker, including charges of voluntarily causing grievous hurt, the Shin Min Daily News reported. The court heard that the last incident was the most recent in an alleged string of physically abuse that the woman rained on her maid.
At 3 pm on February 4 this year, the defendant punched the victim in the face and then forced her to use a meat-tenderizer to hammer her teeth 50 times at the home in Anchorvale, Sengkang, Singapore.
The woman inflicted further harm and damage by parting the victim’s lips with her left hand and smashing the worker’s teeth with the tenderizer in her right hand. The assault caused the maid’s teeth to crack and drop off.
Before this assault, over a period of nine months the woman had been beating and punching the domestic worker in her head and face, leaving her swollen with bruises. On some occasions, she forced the worker to punch herself in the face, particularly between July and November 2018.
The trial continues on May 23.
