A Filipino man has been arrested for raping a female student, aged 13, in Bacolod City in the Philippines. Police said the 39-year-old suspect was caught by the victim’s younger sister, who told her mother what happened.
Police Major Sherlock Gabana said the suspect first abused the victim in April and the recent incident was the fourth time it had occurred, GMA News reported.
Gabana said the suspect was close to the victim’s parents as he had previously rented a room in the family’s house. After the latest incident, the suspect escaped from the house and went into hiding, but he was eventually arrested on Friday.
The suspect denied the charges against him and claimed that he and the victim had a relationship. The victim’s parents said the suspect suddenly gave their daughter gifts such as gadgets, money or food and would bring her home after school.
The suspect reportedly threatened the victim not to tell her parents about them having sex, saying he would commit suicide.
The victim is currently in the custody of her parents and will undergo a medical examination while the suspect is detained and facing charges for violating Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
