Authorities in Indonesia have arrested a man who, by claiming to be a shaman, allegedly persuaded 20 underage girls to allow him to sexually abuse them.
The 26-year-old suspect, identified as RGS, allegedly told the victims they were facing bad luck that they could avoid if they let him touch them or have sexual intercourse with them, The Jakarta Post reported.
The police chief of Garut, West Java, Budi Satria Wiguna said RGS was not a real shaman, or what is known locally as a dukun, but rather worked odd jobs at his local village. The suspect also confessed to looking for potential victims on social media by posing as a confidant. RGS admitted that he had been doing this for almost a year.
The Garut Integrated Care Centre for the Empowerment of Women and Children (P2TP2A) will be assisting the victims and their families. A team of psychologists has reportedly been readied to help them.
