A Filipino man was killed and 14 others were injured on May 7 after their van blew a tire and crashed into a metal barrier on the North Luzon Expressway in the Philippines.

According to Chandru Nambio, the chief of the Valenzuela Police Station’s traffic enforcement unit, the accident happened in the morning on May 7. Nambio said the group was heading to Pampanga from Balintawak, the Philippine Daily Inquirer reported.

“The van rolled over and ended up on the service road near Ever Memorial Gardens,” Nambio said.

The driver of the van, Ron Arwin Fernandez, 23, said the rear right tire of the vehicle exploded, causing the van to swerve and crash into a metal barrier near the Lawang Bato exit in Valenzuela City.

In a report by the Philippine Star, the injured were identified as Iris Cabuguin, 30, Marcelo Mariano, 32, Mevel Gucor, 28, Mark Gil Naraga, 29, Darryl Raquel, 51, Elbert Gallano, 36, John Arvin Chavez, 31, Alexis Macosa, 30, Argie Rotomo, 21, Melvin Blanco 41, Daniel Fronda Jr, 21, Ricmar Lactao 28 and Mark Francis Delos Reyes, 26.

Rolan Denovo, 31, reportedly died on the spot. Denovo was thrown out of the van as it rolled over. The other passengers were injured and taken to Valenzuela Medical Center for Treatment.
