A man in Indonesia has been accused of murdering his wife in their home in West Java after an argument about their incomes.

The man allegedly strangled his wife on April 10 at their home in the Grand Permata City Housing Complex in the city of Bekasi after a heated argument, The Jakarta Post reported.

Local police chief Candra Sukma Kumara said the woman, who earned more than her husband as a trader, repeatedly berated her unemployed hubby.

After the alleged murder, the man is believed to have placed her body in a bedroom and fled from the scene. A sibling of the woman found her body and reported it to the head of the local neighborhood unit on April 12, who alerted authorities.

The man surrendered to Serpong police in South Tangerang, Banten, on April 21.

The police chief Kumara said the man turned himself in after feeling haunted by his late wife.

If convicted, he faces 20 years in jail for killing her.
