A 29-year-old mainland woman pleaded guilty at the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to one count of common assault on her husband’s mistress in a Hong Kong hotel.

The defendant Long Yiji, said to be a businesswoman in Guangzhou, was fined HK$2,000 (US$254) at the Kowloon City Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, Apple Daily reported.

Long came to Hong Kong with family members and friends on 15 November in 2017 as she suspected that her husband, a 33-year-old mainlander surnamed Zhou, was having an affair.

The group went to a hotel room at Pentahotel Hong Kong in Kowloon’s San Po Kong, where they knocked on the door, and Zhou answered it.

They then rushed into the room and found a naked woman on the bed, wrapped only in a quilt.

Long snatched the quilt away and tried to film the 28-year-old Taiwanese woman but the woman resisted. During a tussle Long dragged the mistress onto the floor. After this, Long and her group left the hotel.

Zhou did not report the assault to the police until two months later.

Long was arrested at Hong Kong airport last June and was subsequently charged with assault.

The defense lawyer pleaded for leniency saying Long, who was now separated from Zhou, felt remorse over her impulsive actions. She apologized to her husband and the woman.

The magistrate said that in terms of sentencing, it was an aggravating factor that the defendant came to Hong Kong in a group of people and assaulted the victim with intent. However, as the victim did not suffer any injuries, and since there was no kicking or punching, and taking into consideration the broken marriage the defendant had gone through, Long was fined HK$2,000, Ming Pao Daily reported.
