A 28-year-old suspended police officer pleaded guilty to taking upskirt photos and videos when he appeared in the West Kowloon Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
Chu Ho-lap admitted the charge of “committing an act outraging public decency” after police found about 1,200 upskirt photos and videos in his mobile phone, news website HK01.com reported.
He was originally charged with 19 counts of “access to a computer with criminal or dishonest intent” and he had admitted that earlier.
The charge against Chu was changed by the Court of Final Appeal in April, which ruled that “access to a computer with criminal or dishonest intent” under section 161 of the Crimes Ordinance was not meant to cover a person using their own tech devices.
The defendant was arrested when he took an upskirt photo of a woman on an escalator at Mong Kok MTR station in October last year. When he was intercepted by police, a total of 938 upskirt photos and 290 videos, taken in 311 locations, were found. Some were taken inside a police station.
Deputy magistrate Lau Suk-han adjourned the case until May 31 for sentencing.
