Police arrested 61 women – five Vietnamese and the rest from mainland China – during raids on a number of vice dens in Hong Kong on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip-off, police officers raided an apartment in Friendship Mansion at 345 Hennessy Road in Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island and arrested five Vietnamese women and one mainland Chinese woman, Oriental Daily reported.
A 38-year-old Vietnamese woman, said to be the in charge of the den, was found to be an illegal immigrant. The other four Vietnamese women aged from 24 to 34, were arrested for entering Hong Kong illegally and running a vice establishment. The mainland Chinese woman was allegedly the woman in charge’s assistant.
All the women were sent to Wan Chai Police Station for further investigation.
Meanwhile, 10 women from mainland China, all holding two-way stay permits, were arrested in several vice dens in Kowloon City.
Another 45 mainland Chinese female sex workers aged from 18 to 49 were arrested in Yung Long in the New Territories for breaching the condition of their stay and soliciting in a public place for an immoral purpose.
