A Greek man and his Filipina accomplice were arrested and charged with trafficking a teenage girl in Cebu City, the Philippines, last Friday.
Jonathan Tumulak, an operations manager at Cebu South Bus Terminal, said the Filipina, 60, arrived at the terminal from Dumaguete and brought the 15-year-old teen with her. When they arrived, the Greek man paid the Filipina and handed over the minor to him, Philippine Lifestyle News reported.
Tumulak contacted the police, who immediately intervened. Security footage showed the Greek man touching the young girl’s hips, hands and face after speaking with the Filipina. It was later confirmed that the Filipina was paid 3,000 pesos.
Police found that the Filipina and the girl were not related. The Greek man had promised to pay for the girl’s school expenses in exchange for her to work as his house help.
Charges for violating the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act and Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act were filed against the two. The teenager is now in the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
