The Philippine government has filed a criminal case over the alleged murder of a Filipino domestic worker in Kuwait on May 14.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said, in a statement, they had coordinated with the Philippine Embassy in the Gulf state over the death of Constancia Lago Dayag, a domestic worker who was allegedly beaten to death by her employer.
“The department will continue to provide legal and other assistance of the next-of-kin of the late OFW [overseas foreign worker] Dayag,” the DFA said.
On the night of Tuesday May 14, Dayag was brought to Al Sabah Hospital suffering various contusions and hematoma. A cucumber had also been inserted in her body. Officials said she was pronounced dead on arrival.
A report in the Kuwait Times claimed an initial examination of Dayag’s body showed that she had died of natural causes and that there was no evidence of a crime.
Kuwaiti security authorities also claimed that the Filipina had been on good terms with her employer’s family. They claimed that by reviewing recent calls on her mobile phone, it was found she had relationships with some Pakistani friends.
The Department of Foreign Affairs said it will shoulder the repatriation of Dayag’s remains to her hometown in Cauayan, Isabela on the main island of Luzon. But it has yet a date for the repatriation.
