Police responded to a call that a baby had been abandoned in a restaurant in Chai Wan on Hong Kong on Wednesday, but it turned out to be a false alarm.

Police received a report from a staff member at the restaurant who suspected the baby boy had been abandoned in his stroller as the mother could not be found, Headline Daily reported.

At about noon, a 29-year-old woman with her six-week-old baby boy had lunch in a restaurant on Kut Shing Street in Chai Wan. The woman then felt unwell and needed to go to the bathroom. But there was no bathroom in the restaurant, so she went looking for one outside.

However, she left her baby boy in the restaurant – his birth certificate was found inside the stroller. A male member of the staff was concerned that the woman had abandoned her son in the restaurant and decided to call the police.

Meanwhile, a woman in the restaurant took photos of the baby and posted them on Facebook, hoping to find the mother. The post was shared more than 1,000 times.

Half an hour later, the mother returned to the restaurant. She told police that she went to look for a washroom but there was a long queue and she spent more time than expected.
