An employer in Kuwait who allegedly killed a Filipino domestic worker is facing a murder charge supported by the Philippine government against him.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) in Manila identified the employer as Bader Ibrahim Mohammad Hussain, who allegedly abused Constancia Lago Dayag before she died, ABS-CBN News reported.

On May 14, Dayag was taken to the Al Sabah Hospital in Kuwait but was pronounced dead on arrival. She had suffered various contusions and a hematoma, and a cucumber had also been inserted in her body.

Emmanuel Fernandez, the DFA Assistant Secretary, said Hussain faced a complaint filed by the Kuwaiti General Prosecutor’s Office and supported by the Philippine embassy.

“He is, of course, presumed innocent until proven guilty. And the autopsy results have yet to show whether or not there was foul play in the death of Ms Dayag. We will provide further updates as they come,” Fernandez said.

Reports of Dayag’s death led the Philippine government to file a criminal case against her employer, who allegedly beat her to death.

Dayag’s remains arrived in the Philippine on Thursday afternoon. The DFA said it has endorsed the case to the Philippine National Bureau of Investigation, which will undertake an independent autopsy and perform toxicology tests on the remains to determine the cause of death.

The DFA will also provide 100,000 pesos in financial assistance to Dayag’s family to help with the cost of her funeral.
