A Filipino college student was found dead and his body had been burned in Cagayan de Oro City in the Philippines.

On Tuesday, the body believed to be Marjune Mejos was found under a tree in a vacant lot in Sitio Kamakawan, Barangay Indahag. Several parts of the body were burned and wounds were found on the victim’s head, GMA News reported.

Farmers near the area discovered the body and called police.

According to police, the victim had been hit several times by a hard object and may have been killed and burned in an attempt to hide the crime. Police Lieutenant Fuljean Ragmac said the victim had a gaping wound on his left eyebrow.

Police said prior to discovering the victim’s body, they received a report that a motorcycle was also burned near the area. The motorcycle may be related to the victim’s case, they said.

Police are investigating and looking for the suspect.
