Electric carmaker Tesla is taking orders on its website for its upgraded version of its Model 3 for customers in China.

On May 31, Tesla announced that people could make reservations for the upgraded model, which is produced at the company’s Shanghai Super Factory, according to Tesla’s official website.

The new battery for the Model 3 made by Tesla China has a cruising range of 460 kilometers, according to an NEDC estimate, and its starting price will be 328,000 Yuan, or US$47,511. The estimated delivery time is six to 10 months.

According to paper.cn, the new car will start at 328,000 Yuan and the premium version will cost up to 522,000 Yuan (US$75,613.) As for its competition, the Weilai E36 standard model starts at 358,000 Yuan (US$51,857) and the BMWi3 is marked at 339,800 Yuan (US$49,220.)

The Model 3 is an affordable option that is more compact, conventional and cost-effective. One of the biggest features of the vehicle is the elimination of dashboards, buttons and old-school switches. Instead, the car comes with a 15-inch touch screen that combines GPS, multimedia, internet and assisted driving modes. Air-conditioning vents have been concealed as well.

As for performance, the Model 3 can go from 0 to 100km/h in 5.6 seconds and has a top speed of 225km/h. The deposit on the vehicle is set at 20,000 Yuan.

Tesla will also offer a new vehicle limited warranty for four years or 80,000km. Standard battery upgrades from Tesla China will also come with a warranty for eight years or 160,000km, whichever comes first.

Phase 1 of the Tesla Super Factory started construction in Lingang, Shanghai, on January 7. It marked the first foreign-owned project on Chinese soil after the government canceled the foreign-investment ratio of new energy vehicles. It is also the largest foreign-based manufacturing project in the history of Shanghai.

Foundation construction of the Shanghai plant was finished in April. Production equipment will be installed and production lines will be mass-produced at the end of this year as well.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk estimated that 1,000 to 2,000 cars will be produced weekly by the Shanghai plant.
