حكمت محكمة عراقية أمس الأربعاء على ثلاثة فرنسيين متهمين بالانضمام لتنظيم الدولة الإسلامية بالإعدام. تعتبر هذه أول أحكام بالإعدام تصدر ضد فرنسيين متهمين بالنضمام للتنظيم.
تم تحويل الفرنسيين الثلاثة، كيفين جونو وليونارد لوبيز وويليم ماشو للمحاكمة في العراق بعد القبض عليهم من قبل القوات المدعومة من الولايات المتحدة في سوريا. للمتهمين حق الاستئناف على الحكم في خلال 30 يوم.
نقل آلاف الجهاديين للعراق في الشهور الأخيرة من سوريا المجاورة بعد القبض عليهم من قبل قوى سوريا الديمقراطية في حملة عسكرية ضدالتنظيم.
كانت السلطات القضائية العراقية أعلنت في وقت سابق من هذا الشهر أنها أصدرت أحكام على أكثر من 500 أجنبي متهمين بالانضمام للتنظيم منذ بداية 2018.
أثارت المحاكمات انتقادات المنظمات الحقوقية التي اتهمت النظام القضائي العراقي بالاعتماد على الاعترافات تحت التعذيب في أحكامها كما أثارت الجدل حول ما إذا كان يجب محاكمة أعضاء التنظيم من الأجانب في العراق أم في بلادهم الأصلية.
