Two Hong Kong women were taken to hospital on Sunday after being injured by a window that fell from the seventh floor of a building in Kowloon’s Sham Shui Po.

A video that surfaced on social media captured the incident, which happened at around 10am. In the video, the window frame can be seen striking one of the women on the head, after which the other woman was injured by the breaking glass, Headline Daily reported.

The video showed the two women buying vegetables from a stall on Pei Ho Street when the accident occurred.

A 65-year-old woman surnamed Siu who was hit on the head by the frame of the window was knocked to the ground, but was able to get up by herself. Another woman, a 69-year-old surnamed Kwan, sustained injuries from shards of glass. They were sent to hospital for medical treatment.

It is understood that the window fell from the seventh floor of an adjacent building and bounced off a canopy before falling on the victims.

Police arrested a female tenant at the sub-divided flat. She claimed that it was her first day in the flat, and that she had already informed her landlord about problems with the window, Sing Pao reported. Police are continuing their investigation.

This is the second case of a falling window hitting a person this year. In January, a 24-year-old woman visiting Hong Kong from the mainland was killed after she was hit by a window that fell from The Mira Hong Kong in Tsim Sha Tsui.
