A Filipino taxi driver has been arrested for robbing a Filipino migrant worker who had just arrived home in the Philippines from Hong Kong.

On April 17, Karen Mitschel, a domestic worker in Hong Kong, arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila and called a taxi to take her home. The driver, Orestes Quizon, drove a short distance from the airport before robbing Mitschel, the Manila Bulletin reported.

Mitschel said Quizon threatened to shoot her and took her belongings. She begged for her life, which prompted Quizon to take pity on her and leave her along the highway after the robbery.

Before getting off the taxi, Mitschel took the passenger slip given by the dispatcher at the airport terminal bearing the taxi’s plate number. She reported the incident to Las Piñas police.

Police later found the taxi abandoned near the airport and Quizon was arrested a few hours after the robbery.
