Police in Hong Kong are hunting for a South Asian man for alleged theft and running away from a taxi without paying his fare in Yuen Long, the New Territories on Tuesday night.
At 11pm, a 51-year-old taxi driver surnamed Lee took the man from Tai Po to Yuen Long in the New Territories, Oriental Daily reported.
When the taxi arrived at the destination, Lee opened the door for the passenger while waiting to collect the fare, but the man jumped out of the car and ran away without paying. Lee chased after the passenger on foot, but failed to locate him.
When Lee returned to his taxi, he found a dashboard camera, two mobile phones worth around HK$6,000 (US$765) and his bag were missing.
Police suspected that the suspect returned to the taxi and stole the items while Lee was looking for him.
Yuen Long police classified the case as theft and making off without payment.
