An Egyptian man has been charged with raping a Filipino woman while she was sleeping in a shared villa in Al Bada’a, Dubai.
The incident happened on September 21 last year when the 35-year-old Filipina returned home from a party at 4.30am. The Filipina was asleep in her room when the 23-year-old Egyptian man snuck in and raped her, the Khaleej Times reported.
The Filipina said she came back from a relative’s party in a nearby villa. Shortly after falling asleep, she felt someone forcing himself on her.
“When I opened my eyes, he stood up and left the room,” the Filipina said.
The Filipina said she followed the man outside the room to the villa’s yard, where she saw three men and told them what happened. She saw the man pass by, but waited until her husband came home from work before filing a complaint to the police.
The police then arrested the man shortly after the report was made. According to a forensic report, traces of the man’s DNA were found on the Filipina’s underwear and it was confirmed that he had sex with her.
On Tuesday at the Dubai Court of First Instance, the Egyptian man was charged with raping the Filipina. The man denied the charge in court. He remains in custody until the next hearing on May 12.
