Police arrested a 40-year-old Hong Kong man on Wednesday for loitering after he was captured on a doorbell camera over an alleged attempted burglary in Tuen Mun in the New Territories.
Police launched an investigation after they noticed a viral video clip on social media which captured the attempted burglary, Headline Daily reported. The clip from April 1 showed the suspect showed up in front of an apartment at Wu Kwong House of Wu King Estate.
When he realized no one was at home, he tried to force open the door. However, he failed and left the scene after noticing other residents nearby. But he was clearly captured by the doorbell camera.
The flat’s resident later uploaded the video clip to social media to alert others to be careful. He did not report the case to police.
Officers took the initiative to investigate the attempted burglary and contacted the flat resident. They arrested the suspect on Wednesday in Tuen Mun district. An investigation will be carried out to see whether the suspect carried out burglaries in the district.
