Police are investigating an alleged hit and run by a Hong Kong taxi after a 75-year-old man was knocked down and killed on Hong Kong’s Island Eastern Corridor on Thursday.

At about 5am, police received a report about a man walking on the expressway in the direction of Chai Wan near City Garden in North Point, Apple Daily reported.

A taxi, which was travelling eastbound along the expressway, allegedly struck the man it approached Oil Street. The taxi then reportedly fled the scene.

While police officers were on their way to investigate the report of the man walking on the expressway, they received another report that a man’s body had been found.

Paramedics arrived but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. A Hong Kong Identity Card, a bankbook, a radio, a pair of sports shoes and a jacket were found at the scene.

An investigation is underway and the police urge anyone who may have witnessed the accident or who has any information about it to contact them.
