An Egyptian man has been charged for allegedly raping his former Filipino coworker in her apartment in Dubai.
The 29-year-old Egyptian allegedly forced himself on the Filipina, 39, after she invited him over to her apartment in December last year. According to the Filipina, she was friends with the Egyptian as they worked in the same company, the Khaleej Times reported.
“We were friends and would often meet. In July 2018, I left my job at the firm,” the Filipina said.
After leaving the company, the Filipina got in touch with the Egyptian through Facebook and invited him to her apartment in Jebel Ali. The Egyptian came over in the evening and brought alcohol with him.
“We drank from 8pm to 11pm, and then I fell asleep. I told him to stay overnight as he already vomited twice and I was worried about him,” the Filipina said.
The Filipina went to the bathroom, where the man had followed her. The man then dragged her into the bedroom and raped her. The Filipina claimed she repeatedly asked him to stop, but the man did not listen.
The Filipina managed to report the incident to her building’s security guards, who called the police to have the man arrested. One said the woman was scared and crying.
A forensic report showed that the Filipina was raped by the man. During the investigation, the man admitted that he had sex with the Filipina but alleged it was consensual.
The case was heard at the Dubai Court of First Instance on Thursday, with the man on a charge of raping the Filipina.
He was convicted and faces a hearing on April 29 when he will be sentenced.
