Fares will remain unchanged for Hong Kong MTR commuters using the Octopus card until April next year. The MTR Corporation will extend the 3.3% fare concessions to 40 weeks from six months as originally planned upon the government’s request, according to a government release.

Frank Chan Fan, the secretary for transport and housing, said the company had responded to the public concern and set aside additional resources, said to be about HK$400 million (US$5.1million) to extend the “3.3% rebate” for passengers, am730 reported.

That means the fares of about five million passengers will remain unchanged till April 2020. People in Hong Kong are dissatisfied with the company because it raises fares despite there being several severe accidents.
