ناشدت منظمة الصليب الأحمر أي شخص لديه معلومات عن ثلاثة موظفين يعملون لدى منظمة الإغاثة تعرضوا للخطف في سوريا منذ خمسة سنوات أن يتقدم للمنظمة للمساعدة في انقاذهم.
قالت المنظمة في بيان أمس الأحد أنها حصلت على معلومات تشير لأن الممرضة النيوزيلندية لويزا أكافي التي اختطفت أثناء مشاركتها في مهمة للمنظمة في إدلب في 2013 كانت على قيد الحياة في أواخر 2018، بينما لم تتمكن المنظمة من معرفة مصير زميليها المختطفين السوريين علاء رجب ونبيل بقدونس الذين كانا يعملان سائقين بالمنظمة.
كان الثلاثة في إحدى القوافل الطبية التي كانت تحمل إمدادات طبية في إدلب في 13 أكتوبر/تشرين الأول عندما أوقف مسلحون القافلة وخطفوا سبعة أشخاص. أفرج المسلحون عن أربعة أشخاص في اليوم التالي.
قال دومينيك شتيلهارت، مدير عمليات اللجنة الدولية للصليب الأحمر، في البيان: «نتحدث الآن للإشادة علناً بلويزا وعلاء ونبيل وتقدير ما يتعرضون له من مشقة ومعاناة. ونرغب أيضاً أن يعرف زملاؤنا الثلاثة أننا لم نتوقف عن البحث عنهم يوماً، وأننا لا نزال نبذل أقصى ما في وسعنا من أجل العثور عليهم. ونحن نتطلع إلى اليوم الذي نستطيع فيه رؤيتهم مرةً أخرى».
