Chinese technology giant Tencent is reportedly optimizing its organizational structure by streamlining about 10% of its middle management.

One tenth of its approximately 200 middle management workers are impacted, involving positions such as assistant general manager, deputy general manager and general manager, 36Kr reported, citing several unnamed sources with knowledge of the matter.

Some vice-presidents may also be on the list, and, the ratio may be even higher, said an unnamed staffer in Tencent’s strategic development department.

The optimization will involve Tencent’s internal business groups, including its platform and content group, cloud and smart industry group and corporate development group, as well as functional units such as sales and technology support, the report said.

Both Tencent and the impacted staff are keeping a low profile, with the company refusing any comment.

In an earlier meeting, executive director and president, Martin Lau, mentioned the intention to streamline unqualified managers, especially middle management.
