A 48-year-old female teacher at a school in Hong Kong’s New Territories has died after jumping from the school building on Wednesday.
At 7am, the teacher surnamed Lam of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Leo Tung-hai Lee Primary School in Tin Tan Street, Tin Shui Wai jumped from the sixth-floor corridor of the school, Sing Tao Daily reported.
A colleague found Lam lying in an open area and called the police immediately. Paramedics arrived but pronounced Lam dead at the scene.
No suicide note was found. After an initial investigation, police believe that Lam committed suicide, possibly due to work pressure. An autopsy will be carried out.
Lam’s brother and sisters arrived at the school after the tragedy. They revealed that Lam had told them she had been under great pressure from work, Apple Daily reported.
Lam had joined the school in 1996 and recently had been in charge of Chinese Language and library matters.
A school spokesperson said they were saddened by the tragedy and had extended their condolences to their colleague’s family.
Meanwhile, the school had reported on the tragedy to the Education Bureau and formed a crisis management team to provide necessary support to affected students and teachers.
