Hong Kong is expecting showers and thunderstorms during the weekend thanks to a trough of low pressure approaching the south China coast.

On Friday morning, cloudy and cool weather kicked in with scattered rain pushing the temperature down to 15 degrees, according to a weather bulletin on the Observatory’s website.

Over the weekend, more showers with thunderstorms are expected late on Saturday and early on Sunday. The temperature will range from 16 degrees to 22 degrees.

Under the influence of a relatively dry northeast monsoon, the weather will improve gradually early next week and it will be cool on Monday morning, the Observatory said on its nine-day weather forecast. Sunny and dry weather is expected with the minimum temperature to drop to 15 degrees.

The monsoon will continue to bring cooler weather to the city during the middle of next week.
