Hundreds of police were dispatched in Ho Chi Minh City for one of the biggest drugs busts in Vietnam’s recent history.

Vietnamese authorities raided a property located in Binh Tan district on Wednesday March 20 and found more than 300 kilograms of methamphetamine, VN Express reported.

The property was a mansion which was used as a hideout and a warehouse by drug traffickers.

At least 11 people, including some from Laos and China, were arrested. The methamphetamine was found on a pickup truck, which was confiscated as well.

The amount of drugs is believed to be the largest ever in Ho Chi Minh, the main city in the country’s south. The drugs reportedly came from Laos and were smuggled into the country via the Bo Y Border Gate in Kon Tum province.

Authorities were also looking to bust other suspected drug warehouses throughout the country, including Binh Duong and Tay Ninh provinces.

Given the huge volume of drugs found, the suspects involved could face the death penalty if found guilty of drug smuggling.
