A fire in a four-story hotel in Haiphong, northeastern Vietnam, killed a woman on Sunday morning. At about 10am, the fire broke out at the Sao Mai Hotel on Lach Tray Street in the city’s Ngo Quyen district, VN Express reported. Reportedly all four stories of the building were ablaze.

Authorities blocked the street and four fire engines were dispatched to the scene. Ambulances helped evacuate the injured.

Two people were taken out of the burning hotel around noon. One was a woman who was already deceased by the time she was taken out.

Witnesses said they spotted the fire in the ground floor’s sauna area. The fire then spread throughout the hotel from there. It got worse when it made its way to the liquor storage room, which may have fueled the blaze.

Firefighters had extinguished the blaze by around 1pm. Houses neighboring the hotel were slightly damaged by the fire.

The cause of the fire is being investigated by the local authorities.
