A 33-year-old off-duty Hong Kong police officer has died after crashing his motorcycle in Tai Po, the New Territories on Saturday night.
At about 11:40pm, the victim surnamed Wong was riding his motorcycle along Tai Wo Road in Tai Po heading towards Yuen Long when the accident happened, according to a government release.
Wong reportedly lost control on a bend and crashed his Honda CB1000R into roadside railings, and motorists arriving at the scene found him lying unconscious in the road, Apple Daily reported. He was rushed to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Police collected the motorcycle’s dashboard camera for further investigation.
Wong was part of the New Territories North Police Tactical Unit, and lived with his family in Tuen Mun. At the time of the accident, he was reportedly riding home after spending time in Tai Po after work.
