A Filipino migrant worker was killed and three others injured when a speeding car crashed into their vehicle in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

One of the injured, who is currently receiving treatment in hospital, said the accident happened on Saturday morning when they were heading to a basketball court. The migrant worker said the impact of the crash made them lose consciousness, GMA News reported.

The migrant worker who died in the crash was seated in the front passenger seat, where the sports car hit their vehicle. The other three victims were rushed to hospital for treatment.

According to the migrant worker’s supervisor, the driver of the sports car admitted that he was driving too fast and claimed that he lost control after one of his tires blew out.

The driver reportedly said his insurance will cover the expenses of the victims. Migrant worker group Kaagapay Ng Bawat OFW reported the accident to the Philippine Overseas Labor Office and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA).

Labor Attache Nasser Munder and Welfare Officer James Mendiola said the Filipino who died in the crash could receive death benefits as his OWWA membership had expired. However, the dead man’s family may seek OWWA assistance in repatriating his remains.
