每年3月的櫻花季，「去武大看櫻花」都是令人艷羨的出遊選擇，微博上「武大櫻花」標籤的話題閱讀量有數千萬，網上還有「三月賞櫻，唯有武大」的說法。
3月24日下午，兩名男子前來賞櫻，卻在武漢大學被校方保安人員毆打，原因是其中一人的著裝「類似和服」。
3月25日武漢市公安局珞珈山派出所回覆媒體稱，公安已經介入此事調查之中，「調查兩個重點，到底是唐裝還是和服，以及衝突的全過程」。
網上流傳的一段1分多鐘的視頻顯示，一名穿著類似和服服裝的青年男子和另一穿著休閒裝的青年男子，被四名校方保安人員按在地上。他倆掙札起身後，穿著類似和服服裝的男子大聲重覆喊著：「憑什麽打人？」
武大一名在現場的學生告訴記者，當時這兩名男子要進入學校賞櫻，但保安不許其進入，理由是其中一人穿著和服。穿休閒裝的男子爆粗口罵保安，結果導致雙方動手。
身著「疑似和服」的男青年事後對媒體說，自己是在沈陽上大學的一名學生，此次是特意慕名來武漢大學看櫻花。他說，他穿的不是和服，而是唐裝吳服，是唐朝最流行的服裝，日本深受唐朝的影響，和服確實與吳服很像。但自己曾穿著吳服去過別的地方，從沒出過這種事情。
武漢大學則稱，近年來社會公眾入校賞櫻人數激增，學校採取了網絡實名預約的管理方式，沒有預約不能入校。在學校的預約系統裏，沒有找到兩名男子的預約信息。還有，武大一直都有明確要求，不許在校內穿和服照相。
對此，網友們的觀點也是涇渭分明，支持武大的認為，沒有預約才是真正原因，把視點引到和服上去是強詞奪理；其他人則認為穿什麽衣服並不重要，穿了和服為什麽就不能看櫻花？
