Two police officers suffered injuries to their hands when they arrested a Vietnamese woman for allegedly stealing clothes in Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island on Thursday.

At 9 pm, staff from the clothing retailer H&M found a woman who had allegedly put clothes in the suitcase, news website HK01.com reported. Staff tried to stop her, but she escaped and ran towards Great George Street. Staff members followed her while others called the police.

Two police officers from the traffic report team intercepted the woman near Windsor House. She resisted and bit one of the officer’s fingers, while the other was injured in the back. More police arrived and helped subdue the woman. The stolen clothes were found in her suitcase.

During an investigation, the woman could not provide an identification document. Officers arrested her for alleged theft, assault on police officer and illegal entry. She was detained for further investigation, the Oriental Daily reported.

The injured police officers were sent to the hospital for treatment.
