An Indonesian man has claimed that he was under the influence of alcohol when he allegedly killed his 2-year-old stepdaughter.
Hary Kurniawan, 25, told the police in Depok, West Java that he was drunk and tormented by thoughts of his family’s economic troubles when he struck the baby, causing her death, The Jakarta Post reported.
On February 8, a witness reported the incident after he reportedly saw Kurniawan strike the baby while the baby’s 18-year-old mother was at work.
The couple each had a daughter from previous relationships. Kurniawan claimed that his wife did not show the same love to his 3-year-old daughter as she did to her own daughter.
According to Depok Police officer Arya Perdana, the couple had argued in the days before the incident happened. Should he be found guilty, Kurniawan will face a maximum penalty of 20 years in jail under Article 338 of the Criminal Code.
