A 15-year-old student threatened to jump from an apartment in Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island after having an argument with his mother over unfinished homework on Wednesday.
At 7am, the Taiwanese-American student, who studies at an international school in the city and lives at Manrich Court on St. Francis Street, refused to go to school after his mother woke him up, Ta Kung Pao reported.
Wednesday was the first day of school after the Chinese New Year holidays. However, when the boy told his mother that he had not finished his homework and did not want to go to school, they argued. Suddenly, the boy became upset, climbed out of a window and threatened to commit suicide.
When his mother was unable to persuade him to come back inside, she called the police.
Police officers and firemen arrived, and after 20 minutes of discussion, the boy agreed to return to safety.
Although he was unhurt, the boy, accompanied by his mother, went to hospital for a medical check-up. Police classed the case as attempted suicide and informed the Education Bureau and the student’s school.
