The Ministry of Labor of Taiwan issued a public apology on Thursday to the Philippine government over an advertisement for migrant workers’ rights and welfare at Taoyuan International Airport which showed the country’s flag in the war position.
The Workforce Development Agency of the Ministry of Labor issued an apology in a press statement published on February 14, a day after the launch of an advertising campaign for a Counseling and Protection Hotline for Foreign Workers showing the Philippine flag upside-down, the United Daily News reported.
A photo taken by a Filipino migrant who was returning to the country after a holiday showed the flag upside-down with the red field rather than the blue one at the top, which officially means the nation is at war. There were a total of two light boxes displaying the advertisement inside the arrival hall of Terminal 1 at the airport. Both were taken down on Thursday, pending replacements.
The agency sincerely apologized for the mistake and promised they would exercise more caution in the future.
