Seven suspected robbers were killed in a shootout with police in Batangas province in the Philippines on Monday.
At 4:45 am, the seven men, who were allegedly members of a gang behind several incidents in Batangas, were in a white van and ignored a police checkpoint in Barangay Banyaga in Agoncillo and starting shooting at the police manning it, GMA News reported.
According to Colonel Edwin Quilates, the provincial director of Batangas police, authorities are still determining the identities of the slain men and are also investigating if there are other members of the gang. “The suspects fired upon the responding personnel which prompted the latter to return fire,” the police report said.
Police have linked the suspects to a series of robberies in the province. The latest incident happened in a grocery store in Taal where about 150,000 pesos was taken. The group was believed to be behind two robberies in an agriculture store in San Jose town in August and October last year. The suspects reportedly stole a total of 1.3 million pesos in cash.
