She was Miss Universe in 2018 and now Catriona Gray is set to become a tourism ambassador for the Philippines. The Philippines’ Department of Tourism (DOT) wants to appoint Gray to the position.

On Tuesday when Gray paid a courtesy call to the DOT, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said President Rodrigo Duterte was keen to appoint Gray to be the Philippines’ tourism ambassador for her efforts in promoting the country and its culture, Philippine News Agency reported.

Puyat hailed Gray as the “perfect tourism ambassador” and commended her efforts to promote the Philippines. Puyat said Gray was excited at the prospect of further promoting the country’s tourist destinations. “Cat has already been promoting the Philippines even before she won and thank you for that, for promoting Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao,” Puyat said during the courtesy call.

Gray said promoting the Philippines is something she is very passionate about and she was hopeful she could boost the country’s tourism in her own way. “I feel like if people will see what we have to offer, the level of interest will spike. We have so much potential to share that with the rest of the world. I hope that in my own way of being Miss Universe 2018, I could work in promoting the Philippines,” Gray said.

During the Miss Universe pageant, Gray and her team released videos of different destinations in the Philippines such as Pampanga, Intramuros, Leyte and South Cotabato. The destinations became the inspiration for her national costume in the pageant.
